Steps to becoming an instructor:

The first part of becoming a driving instructor is to have a CRB check as you have to be a fit and proper person to become a professional driving instructor. You also need to have held a driving licence for 3 years. To become an approved driving instructor you'll need to pass 3 training sections.

ADI Part One

Part one of the qualification process comprises of two tests and you are required to pass both. The theory test and the hazard perception test. This checks your knowledge on the high way code, general road safety, driving techniques and basic first aid. We will provide you with all training materials needed to pass the test. The test duration is about 90 minutes and you'll need to achieve 85 % to pass. The second part of the test is the hazard perception and you'll need to achieve 57 out of a possible 75.

ADI Part two

This is the second stage of the process which is an advanced practical driving test where you'll be expected to demonstrate a professional level of driving ability with a DVSA examiner. This normally takes about 10hrs of training with your U-Drive trainer. The test is around an hour and includes an eye site test & vehicle maintenance questions at the start of the test.

ADI Part Three

The final part of your training is to check your ability to pass on your driving skills correctly to others. U-Drive will provide you with 40hrs of tuition for this. After completing the 40hrs you can apply for a trainee licence which is valid for 6 months. This will allow you to become part of the team at U-Drive earning a living as a driving instructor and gaining experience before your final test. After passing your part three test you can apply to the DVSA register of Approved Driving Instructors.
